A pull-out pantry is a tall cabinet fitted with a full-height frame of baskets or trays that runs out on heavy-duty runners, bringing every shelf into reach at once. Also called a tall unit pull-out or larder pull-out.
como esta construido
Two runners are fixed to the cabinet sides, and a steel or aluminium frame carries four to six baskets. The frame runs on the runners as a single unit, so pulling the handle brings the whole column forward rather than one shelf at a time.
Load rating is typically 40–60 kg for the frame, spread across the baskets. That is enough for dry goods, bottles and tins, but the rating assumes an even load — a single heavy basket at the top is what causes the frame to twist.

Width and clearance
A minimum of about 300 mm internal width is needed for a usable unit; 400–600 mm is the useful range. Below 300 mm the baskets are too narrow to hold a cereal box flat, and the unit becomes a spice rack at tall-cabinet cost.
Door clearance matters too. A pull-out needs the door to open at least 90°, and a wide door on a narrow cabinet will foul the adjacent run. Where space is tight, a hinged-and-sliding door mechanism is used so the door folds away as the frame comes out.
Where the money is well spent
A 300 mm wide, 2.1 m tall cabinet with fixed shelves has about 30% of its volume that nobody can reach. A pull-out converts that into usable storage, which in a small kitchen is worth more than the unit costs.
Where it is wasted: a pantry in a kitchen that already has a walk-in, or a unit specified in a rental where the runner will not be maintained. And in a very tall cabinet, the top basket at 1.9 m is still above eye level — the pull-out helps, but not as much as lowering the whole unit.
Preguntas frecuentes
How wide should a pull-out pantry be?
400–600 mm internal width is the useful range. Below 300 mm the baskets are too narrow to be practical.
What weight can a pull-out pantry carry?
Typically 40–60 kg for the frame, spread evenly. A single heavy basket at the top will twist the frame.
Does it need a special door?
It needs at least 90° of door opening. On a narrow cabinet beside a wall, a fold-away or slide-away door mechanism is used so the frame can come out.
Is a pull-out pantry worth the cost?
In a small kitchen with a full-height cabinet, yes — it converts unreachable depth into usable storage. In a kitchen with a walk-in pantry, rarely.
